Meeting About Junior League
Hi All,
A meeting will be held on Monday 19th September at Falkirk High between 6.45pm and 7.05pm to discuss swimmers attendance at Junior League meets.
Attendance of our swimmers at these meets has been decreasing steadily over the last few months and our coaches are concerned that not enough swimmers are benefiting from the experience that competing at these events brings.
The meeting will be a short introduction to Junior League meets, how they run and how it helps swimmers improve especially when in D1, D2, B3 and Bronze.
Junior league is an important part of the development for all young swimmers and it would be great for the club if we can build a strong presence at future meets.
Please come along.

Squad changes and pooltime increased.
Hello all,
Due to the continued improvement of our swimmers we are increasing our pooltime to allow the squad moves that are due this month. As a club we believe that no swimmer should be held back waiting for a space to become available in the squad that is correct for their ability, so we will move to suit the swimmers we have. This also improves the quality time that the swimmers have with our coaches.
Therefore we are extending our poolhire and also making some changes to the squad training times for D3 and Silver on a Wednesday night at Falkirk High School. Bronze also have a change of time and day for one session and an extra half hour on Sunday nights.
The changes will come into effect from Monday March 7th.
The new times will be as follows:
Wednesday night
D1 6 - 7 FHS
D3 6 - 7 FHS
Bronze 7 - 9 FHS
Silver 7 - 9 FHS
This will replace the bronze session that was previously on a Thursday night at St Mungos.
Sunday night
Bronze 7 - 8.30 Grangemouth Sports Complex
Thanks

Fundraising/ Club champs/ club awards + social night.
Hello all,
I am writing with a request for support for our fundraising efforts.
All fundraising we do makes swimming more affordable for more children and keeps our fees as low as we can manage while still offering a pathway for our swimmers to achieve as high a level as they want to, frim developers right up to British national level and beyond.
Coming up we have our Club Championships on Sunday 30th January, followed by a club awards and social night at the end of February. We would appreciate all volunteers for help on these nights plus donations of any gifts or raffle prizes - even smaller items that could be made up into hampers. Also please let us know of any local businesses who may be willing to help through sponsorship or donation of prizes - meal vouchers, haircuts etc!
Hand in any items at the club desk on Monday nights or via any committee member.
And lastly an update on our online fundraising efforts - the total currently stands at $606.49 broken down into 30.03 from internet searches, 557.23 from internet shopping/holidays and 19.23 from referrals from other fundraising organisations. This is with just 29 members so if more people could join we can really reap the benefits. So go to,
Easyfundraising.org.uk or find the link on our website and register today.
Thanks

Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team Age Group Development Squad
As you may already know, Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team (FIRST) is a joint venture between Falkirk Otter ASC, Bo’ness ASC and Falkirk council to improve performance swimming in the Falkirk area. It's intention is to provide a development path for our swimmers to enable them to develop and compete at the highest levels including National level and has been an outstanding success in it's mission.
We are now in a position to extend the FIRST opportunity to a wider selection of our swimmers with the introduction of the FIRST Age Group Development Squad.
This squad is aimed at swimmers between 11and 13 yrs of age and will build to around 24 swimmers in size over a period of time. They will follow a program based around both West District and Scottish National Age Group level with a view to some qualifying for British National Age Group Championships.
The squad will be led by FIRST Age Group Development Coach Monica Borland, who brings over 10 years coaching experience with athletes from district, National and International level. Monica is responsible for all aspects of the squad, most notably the training and competition program. She also has a remit to work closely with partner clubs. There is a specific criteria for selection as follows:-
* Swimmers aged 11 at end of year.
* Swimmers must have achieved a top 10 placing at West District ASA Championships in their
respective age group in a 200m+ event.
* Should a swimmer have been unable to compete due to injury/illness rankings may be used.
* Swimmers must have a proven record of high attendance within respective gold squad and
complied fully with the criteria within it.
* Swimmer must be willing to follow the competition and training program as agreed with the
FIRST Age Group Development Coach.
* Able to Complete 2.5km+ per hour/25km+ per week with a high level of technical skill and
consistency.
* Swimmers must ALWAYS demonstrate a positive attitude towards training and competing and be
supportive of their peers at all times
NOTE: Meeting the above does not automatically mean selection. All movement is at the coach’s professional discretion.
Swimmers who meet the above criteria have already been identified and offered a place with the FIRST Age Group Development Squad which will begin from Monday 20th September.
Good look to those swimmers on this new and challenging opportunity within the club!

Falkirk Otters Needs You!
Fellow parents,
In recent months the performance of our club in competitions has went from strength to strength with a lot more of our younger swimmers now meeting West District level. No doubt this trend will continue over the forthcoming season.
You may be aware at club gala’s, for example the Cumbernauld Autumn Graded Meet at the end of this month, there is an expectation that participating clubs will assist in the running and accreditation of the gala by providing timekeeping and judging assistance. However you may not be aware that as the swimmers progress to West District level events the club must provide Swimming Technical Officials for each session based on the number of swimmer participating or be fined £50.00 per person for each session in which the required STO is not present.
Accordingly as a club we need to maintain STO coverage at levels.
Last year we ran a couple of club timekeepers courses and we would encourage all past attendees to come forward on gala days and officiate. This year we are intending to run a further club timekeepers course for those interested which will be held on a Sunday night during one of our training sessions. There is no cost to the individuals for this and you would be assisting the club greatly by taking this opportunity to become a qualified club timekeeper. Please come forward and register your interest on a Monday night at the club desk.
In addition we are looking for those timekeepers, both past and new, who would like to progress to the next level and participate in a Judge 1 workshop. This involves only three 2 hour evening sessions held locally and again there is no cost to the individual. This is perhaps our weakest area within the club at present so please come forward and register your interest on a Monday night at the club desk.
Helping out is both satisfying and rewarding giving a better insight into the swimming technique, swimming rules, etc. ...... and actually passes the time quicker on gala days.
The host club also provided, water, coffees and lunches. What more could you ask for!
A judge myself I will be at the Mariners Centre all evening this Monday night, 9th, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this request.
Go on. Help our young swimmers and support your club by becoming a qualified club timekeeper and/or judge.

Falkirk High School
You will have seen from my previous email that parents are no longer allowed poolside at Falkirk High. We have managed to get an area for parents to wait and where the club desk will be for parents to pay monies owed. We have access to the main social area in the school.
When you get to the changing area swimmers go left to the changing rooms.
Parents turn right and follow the windows alongside the courtyard. You can't miss the large social area on your right.

Coach Changes
You may or may not have heard, but Steve Lardner has stepped down as a coach at Otters due to work and family commitments. Tonight, as discussed at previous committee meetings, Fraser Neilson has joined our coaching team. Fraser swam for Falkirk Otters for over 6 years and left the FIRST squad just over a year ago. He has a Level 1 coaching badge and a lifesaving qualification. In order to settle in he will coach at FHS on a Monday 6-7pm and at St Mungos on a Tuesday 6-8pm.
I am sure he will be a welcome addition to the team.

Spectating at Falkirk High SchoolHi folks,
We have been told tonight that parents are no longer allowed to sit poolside at Falkirk high. This is outwith our control and we apologise for any convenience. We will set up the club desk in the corridor and will try to access a room for parents to wait in if required. I will inform you when we have further information.

Training at Falkirk HS and St Mungos HS
Hi All,
Can I clarify that we do not get access to either of these buildings until 6.00pm. This includes entry to changing rooms. Can I ask that swimmers are not dropped off until just before six o'clock and that parents know the coach is present before leaving.
We have had reports of " boisterous" behaviour in the building before gaining access to the changing rooms and the lifeguard at St Mungos has had to reprimand swimmers recently. We are extremely fortunate to have such excellent pool time and we do not want to do anything to jeopardise this.
We would appreciate your support in this matter.

Nutrition Talk
Hi Folks
There is a nutrition talk with a rep from Lucozade on Monday 19th
April 2010 7.00 -8.00pm at Falkirk High School. It is aimed at sport in
general and if any parents from the club wish to attend they would be
most welcome. It should help parents to understand what kids should eat
and drink before, during and after training and competition.

School Lockers
Dear Parents,
I received a complaint from the janitor this evening about the lockers and the
cord in the disabled toilets. The lockers are locked by number combination. A
select number of swimmers are unfortunately entering random combinations and
leaving the lockers locked. Last Tuesday morning the janitor had to try and
unlock 42 of the lockers in the boys changing room. This is unacceptable and
may jeopardise our extensive pool time at Falkirk High School as it is causing
issues for the P.E staff in the morning. Furthermore, the cord in the boys
disabled toilet is being activated on a regular bases which sets an alarm of in
the reception.
I would like to ask you if you could make your child aware of the janitors
complaint. I will also speak to the children before the next session at Falkirk
High School.
Regards,
Sarah

2010 Membership Fees
It is that time again for the registration of swimmers who wish to continue membership of the club. We are required to register the swimmer’s names with SASA by the end of March 2009. Without membership of the club there is no SASA registration and as such the individual has no SASA number or insurance and the swimmers are therefore ineligible to participate in club or Gala meetings. It has been agreed that the annual membership charges for this year will be £65 for single Membership and £120 for Family membership.
As you are aware this club is self-funding and we depend on the receipt of all the membership fees to assist with and enable payments for pool facilities, licenses and insurances to the various regulatory bodies.
We would therefore appreciate if all swimmers still wishing to continue membership of the club could pay their membership fee prior to the 15th March 2009. Payment can be made on a Sunday or Monday night training sessions to a member of the committee and a receipt will be issued.
This year all membership RENEWALS will entitle the swimmer to a 'Falkirk Otter ASC' Speedo Towel. Please ask the committee member taking your membership payments for this unique offer.
Thanking you for your continued support of the Falkirk Otter ASC.
The Committee
Fee’s are: - £65 Single Swimmer Membership
£120 Family Membership

Falkirk Otter Mini-Meet and FIRST Gala
As most of you will be aware our annual meets take place on April 24th and April 25th at Larkhall. This is our major fundraising event of the year and we are looking for support with the following...
We need to provide Technical Officials on both days, especially on Sunday for the FIRST Gala.
Any club timekeepers or judges, your help would be greatly appreciated. For those looking for signatures, there is an opportunity at both meets to get relay take over signatures which can be difficult to get!
Could you let me know if you are able to help, on either day ?
There is an opportunity to sponsor races at the Mini Meet on Saturday 24th at £10 per race.
Your name will appear on the programme as the race sponsor! There is also an opportunity to take out an advert in the programme at a cost of £25 per half page and £50 per full page.
If you have your own business or know of any businesses who would be interested adverts must be with me electronically by Monday 19th April at the latest.
It would be good to have sponsor for the gala itself , so again if you know of any companies that would be willing to sponsor the gala we are keen to talk.
As always we are looking for donations for the Tombola. These can be handed in to the club desk on a Monday night or to any committee member.
Thanks for your continued support.

Changing Rooms at Falkirk High School
It was
pointed out again tonight that swimmers continue to leave
belongings/clothing in the cubicles instead of placing them in lockers
or taking them poolside. This creates real problems at the change over
of sessions when there is nowhere for swimmers to get changed and they
have to wait for one of the few cubicles left to become available.
Can I ask that NO belongings are left in cubicles and this will be monitored over the next few weeks.
If everyone adheres to this then there will be a cubicle for everyone as and when they need it.
I would appreciate your support with this as it is very frustrating for people waiting to get changed.
